Non-Executive Director - Civic Tech
We are looking for a non-executive director with a strong commercial background in a successful SaaS business to become the fifth member of our board (currently two Exec and two non-Execs, including a non-Exec Chair). With a strong brand and a reliable product, we are looking to expand the Board in order to accelerate our growth and thereby increase the Company’s financial value and societal impact. The latter is achieved by boosting citizen engagement in our democracies and the ease with which it takes place. We are looking for someone who can join our Board to help us accomplish these aims by providing expertise, guidance, and a complementary way of thinking to the rest of the Board - someone who will help us to push the Company forward.
About Delib
Delib is the largest independent UK provider of tools that make it easy for government bodies and other publicly accountable organisations to involve citizens in decision making—serving both the UK and APAC markets. Founded in 2001, we were one of the European pioneers in digital democracy, and our products are used around the world by organisations ranging from devolved governments and central/federal departments to local and regional councils and highly specialised regulators. Profitable throughout most of its history, the Company has self-funded its growth and therefore is able to plan its own destiny, free of dominant institutional shareholders. While financial success is important, the impact we create is fundamental to our beliefs—we care about the things we do and the people we do it for.
About You
The successful candidate will have experience of scaling a profitable SaaS business from circa £2 million to £10+ million in ARR. A willingness to work collegially with other Board members and the senior leadership team (SLT), is also essential. Furthermore, the following experiences would be a positive factor:
- Experience of the civil society/civic tech world, or other relevant experience in selling to governmental bodies
- Experience in building or working in a business which seeks to make a positive impact on society
- Knowledge of how the public sector or other adjacent sectors work, with a strong contact network in these areas
- Experience of businesses which have raised capital from angel investors or other long term investors (we’re aiming to grow a profitable/valuable/high-quality business – not to dress it up for a quick “flip”)
Responsibilities
- Attend six Board meetings (usually in Bristol), and one Away Day per annum
- Able to commit approximately 1 days per month to supporting Delib - mostly in preparing and attending the Board meetings and working with the SLT
- Help identify what the business requires to succeed and be able to help us to form useful connections with external peers, networks and other useful parties
- Work with Board colleagues to interrogate management - helping to establish clear strategic objectives, and to review our performance against these objectives
- Support and constructively challenge management and directors on difficult issues
- Serve as a coach to the SLT, lending your relevant experience, and supporting them as necessary and appropriate
Remuneration
The salary for the role will be £18,000 per annum (plus necessary travel expenditures). After the first year some share options may be included.
